                   Tangram

A tangram is a Chinese puzzle. It has seven pieces. 4
You can see the tangram shown here. 3 6
                   A tangram is a puzzle that starts as a single square. 7 5 2
                     • Take a piece of thick card paper and cut out a square of size 8 cm 1
                        by 8 cm from it.
                     • Draw three horizontal lines and three vertical lines on it at equal 3 4
gaps so that 16 small squares are formed inside the big square. 6
Use pencils and a scale for drawing the squares. 7 5 2
                     • Draw one complete diagonal and one incomplete diagonal of the 1
big square as shown here. Then draw one square and one triangle
using these diagonals (shown by the red colour). Extend one side
of the square as shown here. 3 6 4

                     • Cut the big square into 7 pieces (see below): Two large triangles; 5 2
one medium triangle; two small triangles; one square and one 7
parallelogram. You can use different colours for each piece. 1

                                        1 2 3 4 5 6 7
                     • Arrange these pieces of the tangram
                        to form different shapes.

                     • You can use these seven pieces to
                        make thousands of different shapes,
like animals, people, or objects. The
goal is to use all seven pieces without
                        overlapping them.
                                                                             Cat Swan
